SQA Highers: BBBB (or more if two sittings). To include Maths and Chemistry; with Standard Grade Physics at grade C.

Other qualifications: Other UK qualifications or Non-UK qualifications.
Entry requirements for Science and Engineering and for International Students may also apply.
 
Entry to second year
For direct entry to second year the above requirements must be exceeded, including the following:
SQA Advanced Highers: Advanced Highers at AA in Maths and Chemistry.
GCE A Levels: AAB to include Maths at grade A and Chemistry.

Introduction
Chemical engineers are responsible for the development, design and operation of processes that produce the materials and products we all depend on. These range from the fresh water and gas supplied to our homes, to products such as cosmetics, pharmaceuticals, foodstuffs, paints, silicon chips, synthetic skin and many more. Chemical engineers are also playing a leading role in the nanotechnology revolution and work at the interface between engineering and the life sciences. Process design requires the chemical engineer to balance the need to manufacture a product in an economically sustainable way while meeting safety and environmental requirements. Chemical engineers need a very broad range of skills and often interact with engineers from other disciplines. If you are interested in Maths and Chemistry, you may well be fascinated by Chemical Engineering and the impact it has on all our lives in the 21st century.

What you will be studying
Year 1
You will study your chosen branch of Engineering, backed up by classes in Mathematics. You will begin to apply your scientific and mathematical skills to real problem-solving.Your time will usually be divided between Engineering, Mathematics and outside subjects. The Engineering component is split into two halves: the first gives you a taste of several branches of engineering, while the second is your first in-depth study of your preferred subject. For most of our degrees, you can choose an outside subject from the sciences or the arts: for example, Modern Languages, Physics or Economics. With a suitable choice of outside subjects, you can also keep open alternative degree paths.
Year2
You will study your chosen branch of Engineering, backed up by classes in Mathematics. You will begin to apply your scientific and mathematical skills to real problem-solving.
Year 3
You will almost exclusively study your chosen field, having covered the core of the subject material and begun to study more specialised areas. Depending on how well you perform in the third year, you will have the option to proceed for two more years to MEng (Hons) or one more year to BEng (Hons).
Year 4
Years 4 and 5: You will concentrate on specialist study and innovative course work. MEng students will produce a substantial project that may involve working overseas or in industry. Increasingly, you will spend time on individual or group design projects, which may also include students from other disciplines.
 
How you will study
You will be taught through a mixture of lectures, tutorials, practical classes and projects. Later years of the degree will see you spending more time on private study as you develop independence in thinking and working. You will have individual supervision for many projects in your final years.

There are a range of excellent career opportunities open to engineering graduates. Your degree is specifically designed to give you the best possible preparation for a career as a professional engineer in the UK, or almost anywhere in the world. All of our undergraduate degrees meet the requirements of the UK professional engineering bodies. The range of communication, problem solving, team-working and other transferable skills you will have acquired means that you will also be attractive to employers beyond the engineering sector. The financial sector in particular routinely and enthusiastically recruits engineering graduates. Engineers in fact enjoy some of the highest starting salaries of any graduates.
